The Fund also welcomed Kairat Lama Sharif, the Kazakh Ambassador to the UAE, as its special guest, representing the long term relationship between the two countries, which dates back to the 1990s, with the start of ecological studies conducted by the Abu Dhabi government in the central Asian Republic.

Speaking at the show, Sharif said, “I would like to personally thank the Fund for its conservation efforts under the guidance of the UAE’s President, H.H Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al Nahyan, which have helped in establishing closer relations between the UAE and Kazakhstan. Today, Kazakhstan has become home to the Fund’s fourth breeding centre, and we hope that through our combined efforts we will see the Houbara in Kazakhstan reinstated to healthy numbers.”

“These efforts are indicative of the cooperation between the UAE and Kazakhstan on a larger scale and we are pleased that recent easing of visa regulations for visiting Emiratis will see more tourists to Kazakhstan,” he went on to add.

Mohammed Al Baidani, Director General of the IFHC added, “I would like to thank all the dignitaries that visited the IFHC stand at ADIHEX, as well as our long-time partners Kazakhstan, and particularly the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to the UAE, that continue to show their support for our cause. The show has been a resounding success as we have seen growing awareness of Houbara conservation among attendees of the show, and the issue of sustainable hunting grow in importance in the UAE’s public discourse.”

Other visitors to the IFHC’s stand which were of key importance to the Fund were members of the UAE’s falconry community who attended workshops designed to raise awareness of the importance of upholding the traditional values of falconry. The primary stakeholder community for the Fund, its workshops drove home the message of sustainable hunting. Over 70 falconers from across the Gulf attended over the course of the show.

School age children also turned out in droves to visit the kids’ corner. Arguably the second most important stakeholder community after falconers, the activities on the stand were designed to educate future generations on the importance of conservation, namely Houbara conservation.
